4. Limit alcohol
While a small amount of alcohol can potentially reduce your blood pressure, the protective effect is fairly limited. Excessive alcohol consumption has been shown to raise blood pressure. If you are currently a heavy drinker, it’s best to slowly taper down under the supervision of a doctor. Stopping suddenly can have negative effects on blood pressure. If you only drink during social events, avoid binge drinking during those times. Binge drinking has the ability to cause a quick and drastic increase in blood pressure, which can be very dangerous.
