5. Propyl Gallate
Another antioxidant preservative, Propyl Gallate is used specifically to stop oils and fats from rotting, much in the same way that BHA is used to stop foods like chips from spoiling. In fact, Propyl Gallate is generally used alongside BHA, and its main issue is that it is thought to be a possible cause of cancer. The evidence is not yet conclusive, but with so much focus being put on the ingredient, scientists obviously have some cause for concern. You’ll find it in vegetable oil and potato chips, as well as a wide range of meat products, and even chewing gum!
