When it comes to eating healthy, you can’t judge a book by its cover (or packaging). All throughout the grocery store, companies have tried their best into tricking you to buy their products by using deceptive labels like “All Natural” or “Low Fat”. Dig a little deeper and turn that package over. If you start seeing words you can’t even pronounce or astronomical sugar and fat levels, put the food down and back away slowly.
The health and diet industry rakes in billions of dollars each year, but at what cost to the consumer? Let’s take a look at the top 10 “diet” foods that are hurting you more than helping.
10. Diet Soda
Despite their no or low calorie tag, recent research has shown that diet soda may be just as bad for you as regular soda. While it isn’t fully understood why, these studies showed that diet soda causes a spike in blood-sugar levels which can lead to diabetes.
Another study which followed patients for 10 years showed that those who drank two or more diet sodas a day had a 500 percent larger waist than those that didn’t drink any soda. While more studies need to be done, we recommend complete avoidance of diet soda. It may be a hard habit to break, but substituting just one diet soda with a water is a great way to start.
